OUR OMISSION STATEMENT

What we see is an increasingly mechanistic, pragmatic, soulless world where a human creature is becoming more roboticized, its time eaten up by mostly-superfluous yet unavoidable choices. Whether through the rainbow forces of the democratic marketplace or the grim certainty of totalitarian regimes, the world has become a place where the human is conditioned to react to and participate in strictly-categorized well-packaged products. While there is efficiency in such an arrangement, we believe there is more that us mere mortals can put out. Maybe we are not created in any god's image, but our progenitor was most certainly not an Ipod. Or maybe it was. Maybe all we are is Song 7432X... Nonetheless, we, at New Spirit Cinema, believe that it is vital right now to steer the human creature from being enslaved by its own technologies. This is our last stand and the weapon of this fight is imagination! We are confident in our vision that this world (perhaps a majestic toy) could be recreated every day, every moment, every blink of the eye!

We seek to accomplish our vision by remaining naive in the belief that the alchemy of art is more powerful than your latest superplastic. We seek to create art works that remythologize, that take the everyday and reinterpret it for the world as a new mystery, as a wink at creation, as a pimple on the perfect face of consciousness. We seek to recapture the childlike amazement before each mundane thing, before each fleeting circumstance, before each roll of the dice. We will create new myths for the young and the financially secure. We will recook old myths from all the great culture ovens and serve them up like they were ghost carrots! We will take a grain of sand and not see in it the world. We will see in it an aging mongoose who is just too tired to fight the snake that bites its own tail because its teeth keep hurting from all the sugar in the stars of the night. And what does the mongoose do? It calls its lawyer and together they replace the snake with a talking fish that does stand-up jokes about seahorses! The mongoose can now retire. The world is saved. Indeed... the power of art!
